NRC in Assam
The NRC in Assam.
The NRC in Assam State of India is over and the list has excluded around 19 lakhs people. These people may be shifted to Detention Camps being built for them.
The Government could have taken an easier solution by providing citizenship to all within its boundary limits. It could have fenced the border , asked BSF for strict vigil, installed CCTVs and checked through Drones.
The reason is the State of Bengal during the British Rule was extremely vast. It covered Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Bangladesh then.
People have been living in this region since several centuries. There are Bengali speaking people living in Jharkhand, Assam since centuries.
The Brahmaputra river has no course to flow and changes direction every rainy season by atleast 10 kms stretch. Many houses get innudated and hence many people are left with no hard copy documents or sometimes no official entry.
Now those who are excluded have to file for RTI which is again a time consuming process. As a human being, I feel pity on those people who are excluded for no fault of theirs. This is somewhat a violation of human rights.
